Custom storage boxes for pharmacies and clinics

Standard organisers are built for standard items. Clinical supplies are rarely that, and the cost of a tray that almost fits is paid every day in miscounts and wasted minutes.

Every pharmacy and clinic has a drawer that does not work. Vials that roll, ampoules of three sizes sharing one tray, kits that never get packed the same way twice. The usual answer is a standard organiser that nearly fits — and "nearly" is where the miscounts come from.

When does custom storage make sense?

Often it does not, and it is worth saying so first. A standard tray that fits is cheaper and arrives tomorrow.

Custom printing earns its place when one of these is true:

  • The item is an awkward size. Vials and ampoules in diameters no catalogue tray matches, devices with odd profiles, sample tubes that fall over in standard racks.
  • The count matters. A tray with exactly twenty recesses makes a missing item visible at a glance. A bin with "about twenty" does not.
  • It has to mount somewhere specific. A wall, the inside of a cabinet door, a particular trolley.
  • Something was discontinued. An expensive cabinet whose inserts are no longer made is a cabinet with no inserts. We model a replacement from the original or from measurements.
  • Kits travel. Cases for equipment that moves between rooms or sites, where every item has its own place and an empty slot shows what is missing.

What can be made to measure?

Anything whose shape is dictated by what goes inside it:

  • compartment trays sized to specific vial or ampoule diameters
  • drawer inserts that stop small items migrating
  • wall-mounted holders for things that otherwise live on a worktop
  • labelled racks where the label is part of the print rather than a sticker that peels off
  • colour-coded sets, so the right box is recognisable from across the room

The supplement organizers page shows the kinds of pieces we produce.

Which material, and how do you clean it?

PETG is our standard for clinical storage. It is durable, dimensionally stable, wipes down without absorbing liquid, and tolerates the surface disinfectants used in most clinical settings — the main reason we use it here rather than PLA, which is cheaper but less resistant to chemicals.

Two honest limits. Printed parts have layer lines, so they are harder to render perfectly smooth than injection-moulded plastic; we increase wall thickness and orient prints to reduce grooves on surfaces that will be wiped. And nothing in this category is autoclave-safe — PETG softens well below sterilisation temperatures.

If your cleaning protocol specifies a particular product, tell us at the start and we will confirm compatibility rather than assume it.

How does the process work?

  1. You send the items, or their dimensions. The most reliable brief is a photograph of what needs storing beside a ruler, with quantities and where the storage will live.
  2. We design and show you a render.
  3. We print one to test. Worth doing when a tray has thirty recesses and all thirty have to fit — checking one in the real drawer costs far less than reprinting a batch.
  4. We produce the rest, with labels or colour-coding as agreed.

Because there is no tooling, adjusting the design after the test print is a file change, not a new mould.

Does this work for pharmacy chains?

Yes, and it is where consistency pays off. The same insert in every branch means staff moving between sites find things in the same place. Branding or a chain's colour-coding can be built into the print.

Orders outside Malta are shipped across the EU without customs — see shipping.
